What this site knows about you
Short version: nothing is stored on your device until you decide to play, nothing identifies you, and nothing is sold or shared.
This page describes the whole of it. It is short because the site does little — there are no accounts, no sign-ups, no newsletters, no advertising and no tracking across other websites.
Nothing is stored until you act
Reading a page here writes nothing to your device. The items below are created only when you start a run or cast a vote — that is, when you ask the site to do something that cannot work without remembering you for a moment.
| What | Why it exists | Kept |
|---|---|---|
vs_uidcookie | A random anonymous id, created the first time you play. It is what makes “one vote per day” mean anything, keeps a head-to-head page from being voted on twice by the same person, and remembers which arenas you have settled so your shelf survives a refresh. It is tied to nothing else and identifies no one. | 1 year |
vs_unlockedcookie | Which leaderboards you have unlocked by finishing a run. Without it the site would ask you to earn the same thing twice. | 1 year |
yc_soundlocal storage | Whether you switched the sound off. Written only if you press that button. | Until you clear it |
Clearing your browser data removes all three. You lose your shelf and your unlocked rankings; nothing else changes, and you can play again immediately.
Why there is no cookie banner
European rules require consent for storing things on your device except where it is strictly necessary for a service you explicitly asked for. Everything in the table above is set only in response to an action you took, exists only to make that action work, and is never used for advertising, profiling or measurement.
If that ever stops being true — if this site takes advertising, or starts profiling anyone — a banner appears the same day, because at that point it would genuinely be needed. Being asked to click through a consent dialogue before you can answer one question is a poor trade for everybody, so the site is built to not need one.
What the votes themselves are
Your votes are stored on the server, attached to that anonymous id and to nothing else. They are what the rankings are made of, so they are kept. There is no way to connect them to a person, including by us.
Who else sees anything
- Cloudflare Web Analytics
- Counts page views and where visitors arrive from. It was chosen precisely because it sets no cookies and stores no identifier — it cannot follow you between sessions or between sites. Like any web request, it involves your IP address in transit; Cloudflare does not retain it for this purpose. About the product.
- Image and preview hosts
- Pictures and thirty-second audio previews are loaded from the services that provide them — TMDB, Deezer, TVmaze and Wikimedia. Loading an image tells that host your IP address, exactly as it would on any site that shows a picture. Which service supplies what is listed on the credits page.
- Nobody else
- No advertising networks, no data brokers, no social trackers, no analytics beyond the one named above. Nothing is sold, and there is nothing here worth selling.
Server logs
The web server keeps no access log for this site, so visits are not written to disk with your address attached. The application records errors when something breaks, which is how faults get found and fixed.
Children
The site is not aimed at children and asks for no personal information from anyone, of any age.
Your rights, and how to use them
Under the GDPR you may ask what is held about you, ask for it to be corrected or deleted, and object to its processing. In practice the honest answer is that nothing here can be traced back to you: the only identifier is a random string in your own browser, which you can delete yourself at any time, and the site holds no name, email or address to match against a request.
If you have a question about any of this, or believe something on this page is wrong, write to contact@youchoose.it. The site is run by one person in Romania, and that address reaches them.
