Where all of this comes from

This site owns none of the pictures on it. Every one belongs to somebody, and this page says who.

YouChoose is a voting mechanism wrapped around other people’s catalogues. The arenas are assembled from four public sources, each with its own terms, and the credit below is not a courtesy — it is what using them requires.

The Movie Database

The Movie DatabaseFilms, television posters, and the portraits in the actor, director and looks arenas come from TMDB.

This product uses the TMDB API but is not endorsed or certified by TMDB.

Deezer

Artist photographs, record sleeves and every thirty-second preview come from Deezer. The previews are streamed from Deezer directly and are theirs, not ours — this site stores no audio. Play a track in full where the artist gets paid for it.

TVmaze

Television series, their artwork and the ratings used to choose which ones appear come from the TVmaze API, whose data is licensed under CC BY-SA 4.0.

Wikipedia and Wikimedia Commons

The cars, the singers and the drummers are photographed by people who published their work under a Creative Commons licence on Wikimedia Commons. Those licences require the photographer to be named, so the photographer and the licence are printed on the picture itself — bottom right of every card, on all 185 of them, linking back to the original file.

Anything without a named photographer was left out rather than shown on terms that could not be stated. That cost a couple of cars, and it was the right trade. Descriptions come from the corresponding Wikipedia articles, licensed CC BY-SA 4.0.

If something here is yours

Posters, sleeves and press photographs are shown as small thumbnails to identify the work being voted on, in the way a catalogue or a review does. If you hold the rights to something on this site and want it removed, write to contact@youchoose.it with a link to the page and it will be taken down — no argument, no forms, no delay.

The rankings themselves, the writing, and the software are the site’s own. The contenders are not, and no claim is made over them. More about how the rankings work.
